The Marianna Lady Bulldogs volleyball squad played host to the Lady Blue Devils of Holmes County on Monday night and came away with a 3-0 win. In game one Meghan Hinson gave Marianna a 4-1 lead with her first kill of the night. Hinson then reeled off three service points to push Marianna’s lead to 9-3. With Michelle Bassin serving and Hinson spiking, Marianna’s lead swelled to 13-7. Tiffany Lawrence served up a couple of points and then Ciara Ham recorded a kill to make it a 21-12 game. From there Marianna went on to post a 25-14 win.

Holmes County jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game two but Marianna caught fire and got on a roll. Lawrence delivered 3 service points and then Hinson reeled off 6 straight service points as Marianna took a 16-5 lead. The Lady Blue Devils battled back to make it a 17-11 game. A block by Sharhae Williams made it 24-11 and the Lady Bulldogs won game two by a score of 25-12.

The third and final game of the evening Marianna got out of the gates quickly with four service points from Michelle Bassin. Griffin served up four points and along the way Hinson came up with a nice block to raise the lead to 10-3. Williams came up with a dink (tap over) to make it a 13-5 game and from there the Lady Bulldogs went on to take a 19-7 lead. Holmes County began a comeback, pulling to within 7 points at 22-15. Marianna finally stemmed the tide enough to hold on for a 25-19 win.

After a slow start this season with a young and inexperienced squad, this win improved the Lady Bulldogs record to 7-7. It also followed a win over Chipley last Thursday as Marianna posted a 3-1 win over the Lady Tigers. Marianna won game one 25-18 and then fell 25-12 in game two. Marianna bounced back with wins of 25-20 and 25-19 to take the match.

In the feeder programs on Monday night the Lady Bulldogs 9th grade squad fell 2-1. They won game one 26-24 but then lost the next two contest. The JV squad of Marianna posted two wins over Holmes County by winning game one 25-20 and game two 25-6.
