The Marianna Bullpups closed out their regular season in typical fashion, winning two games to finish the season 7-0. The Bullpups have finished three of the last four seasons unbeaten and have only lost one game in the last four years.
The 2009 Bullpups did their part by beating Wakulla last Thursday night 28-8. The win came dispite what Head Coach Hunter described as a poor outing. The Bullpups turned the ball over six times and numerous penalties. But they over came all that with another solid offensive show, racking up over 300 yards in rushing. Marianna took a 16-0 halftime lead as they got a 32 yard scoring run from Shaundre McAroy and a 15 yard run from Jock Wooden. Wooden also added two extra point conversion runs. In the third quarter the Bullpups got a 19 yard TD run from Derrick Knowles and McAroy bolted 65 yards for another score. McAroy finished the night with 155 yards on the ground and Wooden added 102 yards of rushing.
With not much turn around time the Bullpups headed to Tallahassee on Tuesday night to take on Florida High. The Baby Seminoles were no match for Marianna as the Bullpups exploded for a 50-6 rout of the home team. The Bullpups jumped out to a quick 16-0 lead on a couple of TD runs by McAroy. In the second quarter Wooden scored three times to give the Bullpups a 38-6 halftime lead. The third quarter belonged to Knowles as he scored twice. McAroy finished the game with 89 yards on 4 carries and 2 TDs. Wooden added 74 yards on 7 carries and 3 TDs. Knowles was the leading ground gainer with 131 yards on 5 carries and 2 TDs.
Marianna will advance to a conference bowl game that will be played next Thursday October 29th. Their opponent, as well as the time and location of the bowl game had not been determined at press time. Check out next week’s Time’s for a profile of that bowl game once the opponent and location have been determined.
