Sneads swept Vernon in 3 straight games last Thursday night by scores of 25-13, 25-17, and 25-6. Tiffany Guerra led her offense with 26 assists. Leading in kills was Meagan Smith with 10. Ashley Smith tallied 8 kills, while Kara Alford had 7 kills. Jordan Jackson and Sierra Hewett each had 4 kills on the night. Bridgett Dawson played great defense with 5 digs. In ace serves, Meagan Smith again led with 6 aces, while Ashley Smith and Bridgett Dawson both came in with 5 ace serves. Jordan Jackson led in blocks with 3 for the night. Caitlin McCaffrey and Emily Jones also checked in for the Lady Pirates and contributed to Sneads’ outstanding serve receiving and defense for the night. This win brought the Lady Pirates to 6-0 overall, 4-0 in the regular season, and 3-0 in district competition.
The Lady Pirates then competed in the 2009 Panhandle Fall Volleyball Classic at Mosley High School this weekend. The Pirates won their pool defeating Bay High School 25-10 and 25-6. Next the girls faced Port St. Joe and beat them 25-15 and 25-19. Winning their pool placed them in the Gold division for the playoffs portion of the tournament. In first round action, Sneads faced 4A volleyball powerhouse Gulf Breeze. After a hard fought first game, the Lady Pirates lost their momentum in the second game to fall to Gulf Breeze 19-25, 13-25. Loosing to Gulf Breeze put Sneads in the match for third place against another 4A high school, Navarre. In a very exciting match, Sneads upset Navarre to win 25-22, and 29-27. The Lady Pirates earned the third place spot out of 12 teams, finished the day at 3-1, and improved their overall record to 9-1. Meagan Smith was voted by opponent coaches as the tournament MVP for Sneads.
Sneads followed that tournament up by improving to 8-1 on the regular season and 10-1 overall with their win against Cottondale in District competition Monday night. Scores were 25-13, 25-11, 25-16. Leading in kills for Sneads was Meagan Smith with 12, Ashley Smith and Kara Alford each with 5 kills a piece. In Ace serves it was Kara Alford’s jump serve that racked up 6 unanswered serves, while Ashley Smith had five ace serves of her own. Ashley Smith was the team leader in digs with 5, while Bridgett Dawson came in with four digs. Tiffany Guerra earned 24 assists for the night.
The Sneads Lady Pirates J.V volleyball team got the fire started when they scorched Cottondale in two straight matches to end the game quickly! The first match slipped through Cottondale’s hands like sand while they were defeated 25-17. In the second match Cottondale was getting fired up but they were still easily defeated 25-21. Leading the Lady Pirates was Brandy Strickland with 6 aces ,1 kill and 1 assist, next was Ashley Rogers with 4 aces and 3 kills, up next was Christen Howell with 4 aces. Alyssa Edwards was on the board with 2 kills, Shannon McCaffry had 2 aces, 1 kill and 1 assist, Blaire Edenfield had 1 ace and three dig attempts, Becca Aaron had 1 kill and 3 assists, to finish it off Jenna Sneads had 1 kill. The J.V played a great game and was determined to keep up what looks like an awesome season. The Lady Pirates J.V was like wildfires spreading straight into the Varsity to get their fire started!
