The Cottondale Hornets football team was in dire need of a win and a win they got with a
56-16 thumping of Rocky
Bayou Christian School last Friday night. Cottondale jumped out to an early lead of 21-0 by the end of the first quarter. They added a second quarter score to push their lead to 28-0 at the half. Several Hornets had big nights as Nick Jackson rushed for 115 yards and crossed the goal line four times. Evan Davis picked up 106 yards and found the end zone twice on just eight carries. Quarterback C.J. Smith threw for over 70 yards with a touchdown and Cody Cosper also rushed for 69 yards. After Davis blocked a Knight’s punt early in the game, Cosper scooped up the loose ball and returned it for a Hornet touchdown. Davis and Cosper both picked off passes during the contest and Cody Saye led the defense with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery. The Hornets improved to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in district play. Cottondale has an open date this week as they prepare for next Friday night’s annual rivalry with Graceville.
