Jake Headrick’s first three months at the helm of the Indians’ basketball program has been a roller coaster ride. Upon accepting the position, Headrick had the grueling task of signing a completely new team with only two months before the start of school.
Nevertheless, Headrick was able to snag one of the top recruiting freshmen classes in the country.
"We are a very young team this year. But with a young team, we are able to instill in them our basketball philosophy," said coach Headrick.
Chipola will have a new look offensively this year as several of the guards will be able to play both at the point and shooting guard position. John Taylor (6-0) from Chicago, IL, Sam Grooms (6-1) from Greensboro, NC, Roderick Lanon (5-10) from Louisville, KY, Lashay Page (6-2) from Dillon, SC, Dexter Ellington (6-1) from Culthbert, GA, and Daniel Cummins (6-2) from Charlotte, NC are slated to play the guard positions this year.
On the wing, the Indians will look towards several versatile individuals to help lead the Indians to a record-setting seventh consecutive Panhandle Conference crown, including Delwan Graham (6-5) transfer from L.S.U., Steadman Short (6-9) transfer from High Point University, Kevin Powell (6-6) from Fayetteville, NC, and Marvin Fitzgerald (6-5) from Milwaukee, WI.
In the paint, Headrick is hoping that the young blood of Chadrack Lufile (6-10) from Burlington, Canada and Aaron Davis (6-7) from Huntsville, AL will contribute at a high level for the Indians this season.
The new members of the Chipola Men’s Basketball program will definitely look to write their own chapter in the vast history of Chipola tradition.
