The 20th Annual Panhandle Cross Country Championship race this past Saturday at Bulldog Stadium was a big success by any standard. Over 25 varsity boys programs and 20 girls varsity programs participated in their respective 5 K (3.1 miles) runs. In addition, numerous middle school programs competed in a 2 mile race as well. And to top that off an open race was held that was open to all comers and it featured over 100 runners. In all, over 700 runners participated in this event and schools as far away as Jacksonville made the trip for the race.
In the girls race the top three teams were Chiles High School (42 points), Fort Walton Beach (49 points) and Maclay (62 points). Marianna finished 17th out of 20 teams. In the boys race Booker T. Washington High School came in first with 45 points. Fort Walton Beach was second with 48 points and Niceville was third with 117 points. Marianna finished 18th out of the 25 teams. In middle school action Ruckel Middle School claimed the top prize for the girls and Workman Middle School came in first for the boys.
